If you don&#8217;t play by the rules, you get kicked out of the tribe <strong>&#8594; DEAD &#8594; GAME OVER</strong>.</p><p>But for women, the story is a little bit more complicated. </p><p>The line between &#8216;stepping out of line&#8217; and &#8216;getting kicked out of the tribe&#8217; is very, very fine.</p><p>A man fucks up, it&#8217;s just another Tuesday. For better or worse, he dusts himself off, keeps going, and probably never mentions it again unless it&#8217;s in a LinkedIn post as an anecdote of perseverance, resilience and pioneering spirit. </p><p>A woman or other minority fucks up, and they suddenly lose all credibility.</p><p>It&#8217;s all of a sudden &#8216;Ha! Told you women can&#8217;t lead!&#8217; or some such nonsense, and all its resulting consequences.</p><p>The problem therefore becomes: in order to pursue one&#8217;s vocation, particularly if that vocation is outside current social norms, you must accept that you will be judged, and that as a woman (or feminine-coded individual), it will likely happen much easier and faster than for a man (or masculine-coded individual).</p><h2><strong>&#128065;&#65039; The Price Of Being Seen &#128065;&#65039; </strong></h2><p>Becoming ok with being judged is not simply a matter of just needing to &#8216;get over your fear&#8217;. </p><p>That&#8217;s patronising AF.</p><p>To become ok with being judged is actually a <strong>really tall order</strong>, and particularly so for women: nothing less than overriding a very intelligent and very well-entrenched survival strategy.</p><div class="captioned-image-container"><figure><a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" href="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!oWBb!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F5cfe1331-e593-469b-a26c-6b2ab0cbe701_480x480.gif" data-component-name="Image2ToDOM"><div class="image2-inset"><picture><source type="image/webp" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!oWBb!,w_424,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F5cfe1331-e593-469b-a26c-6b2ab0cbe701_480x480.gif 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!oWBb!,w_848,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F5cfe1331-e593-469b-a26c-6b2ab0cbe701_480x480.gif 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!oWBb!,w_1272,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F5cfe1331-e593-469b-a26c-6b2ab0cbe701_480x480.gif 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!oWBb!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F5cfe1331-e593-469b-a26c-6b2ab0cbe701_480x480.gif 1456w" sizes="100vw"><img src="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!oWBb!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F5cfe1331-e593-469b-a26c-6b2ab0cbe701_480x480.gif" width="480" height="480" data-attrs="{&quot;src&quot;:&quot;https://substack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com/public/images/5cfe1331-e593-469b-a26c-6b2ab0cbe701_480x480.gif&quot;,&quot;srcNoWatermark&quot;:null,&quot;fullscreen&quot;:null,&quot;imageSize&quot;:null,&quot;height&quot;:480,&quot;width&quot;:480,&quot;resizeWidth&quot;:null,&quot;bytes&quot;:null,&quot;alt&quot;:null,&quot;title&quot;:null,&quot;type&quot;:null,&quot;href&quot;:null,&quot;belowTheFold&quot;:true,&quot;topImage&quot;:false,&quot;internalRedirect&quot;:null,&quot;isProcessing&quot;:false,&quot;align&quot;:null,&quot;offset&quot;:false}" class="sizing-normal" alt="" srcset="https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!oWBb!,w_424,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F5cfe1331-e593-469b-a26c-6b2ab0cbe701_480x480.gif 424w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!oWBb!,w_848,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F5cfe1331-e593-469b-a26c-6b2ab0cbe701_480x480.gif 848w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!oWBb!,w_1272,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F5cfe1331-e593-469b-a26c-6b2ab0cbe701_480x480.gif 1272w, https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!oWBb!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_lossy/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F5cfe1331-e593-469b-a26c-6b2ab0cbe701_480x480.gif 1456w" sizes="100vw" loading="lazy"></picture><div class="image-link-expand"><div class="pencraft pc-display-flex pc-gap-8 pc-reset"><button tabindex="0" type="button" class="pencraft pc-reset pencraft icon-container restack-image"><svg role="img" width="20" height="20" viewBox="0 0 20 20" fill="none" stroke-width="1.5" stroke="var(--color-fg-primary)" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><g><title></title><path d="M2.53001 7.81595C3.49179 4.73911 6.43281 2.5 9.91173 2.5C13.1684 2.5 15.9537 4.46214 17.0852 7.23684L17.6179 8.67647M17.6179 8.67647L18.5002 4.26471M17.6179 8.67647L13.6473 6.91176M17.4995 12.1841C16.5378 15.2609 13.5967 17.5 10.1178 17.5C6.86118 17.5 4.07589 15.5379 2.94432 12.7632L2.41165 11.3235M2.41165 11.3235L1.5293 15.7353M2.41165 11.3235L6.38224 13.0882"></path></g></svg></button><button tabindex="0" type="button" class="pencraft pc-reset pencraft icon-container view-image"><svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="20" height="20" viewBox="0 0 24 24" fill="none" stroke="currentColor" stroke-width="2" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" class="lucide lucide-maximize2 lucide-maximize-2"><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line></svg></button></div></div></div></a></figure></div><p>As a woman, being <strong>truly</strong> <strong>seen</strong> in your authenticity &#8211; needs to be its full self, and is not yet what it will be at its full potential?</p><p>Of course, a seed.</p><p>Say you were born as an acorn. Not an oak tree just yet, yet holding the potential of one. &#127795;</p><p>You&#8217;ll of course look different at each stage of your life, but the <strong>essence</strong> of an oak tree is always there, in some way, shape or form.</p><p>My own Sun is in Capricorn, in the 10th house of career, public image, reputation, public contribution, legacy. Conjunct both my Sagittarius Midheaven AND my Capricorn North node.</p><p>This configuration screams <strong>visibility</strong>,<strong> </strong>and not just for its own sake, but as part of my soul&#8217;s growth. Even when kicking and screaming, life throws me into the arena of visibility, and in stern Capricorn fashion, tells me to toughen up and learn to handle it. Then teach others how to handle it too.</p><p>This Sun placement also means that my identity and career are jointly shaped through a <strong>Sagittarian-Capricornian blend</strong> of influences and manifestations:</p><p>Growing up surrounded by religious and spiritual people and books &#8211; I was attending Bible readings from a well-known (and quite strict) Christian denomination before I even started school. </p><p>Studious, ambitious pupil, who knew as early as 14 that she will study abroad. </p><p>Attended an international high school known for its focus on academic performance, followed by 6 years of higher education in psychology and educational studies at top universities abroad: one bearing the name of an apostle, and the other a catholic research university. Both founded in the 15th century.</p><p>Immigrated to my third country, hit unemployment stigma. The job market nightmare so many experience now? I lived that in 2016.</p><p>My sun may have flickered, but its light never died.</p><p>Fallen 7 times, stood up 8. A new way of applying my research skills. Climbing the wrong mountain, pushed too hard, over-prioritised my Capricorn North Node and near-completely neglected my Cancer South Node. </p><p><em>&#8220;It doesn&#8217;t matter how I feel, it matters only what others think&#8221;</em></p><p><em>&#8220;What is the point in feeling good?&#8221;</em> &#8211; <strong>yes</strong> I literally said that one <strong>out loud</strong>. </p><p>Pushed harder. Depression. More stigma. </p><p>Who am I living for?</p><p>Tough calls. Exploring in the dark, yet with optimism. </p><p>One day, an idea lands. </p><p>I execute. That sort of worked. </p><p>I execute again. That didn&#8217;t quite work. </p><p>Wait, this might work. </p><p>It did!!</p><p>And then it didn&#8217;t, again.</p><p>And then it did, again.</p><p>Entrepreneurship. </p><p>Using my researcher skills to help in the ways I wished I would&#8217;ve been helped. Benefitting the lives of women from various parts of the world. </p><p>You are worthy, you are enough, this is how you get noticed, this is how you get seen. You can get this job and here is exactly how. These are the gender biases to be aware of. This is how you navigate them. This is how you get to what you want. </p><p><strong>This is how you climb the mountain. &#9968;&#65039;</strong></p><p>In parallel: spiritual awakening. Science &amp; spirituality exploration. At first hidden, then public. Where is this going? This makes no sense. What is it that keeps calling to me? <strong>Wait, astrology is real??</strong></p><p>Everything coming together.</p><p>Becoming a vocational astrologer empowering women.</p><p>Full circle.</p><p>The oak tree grew.</p><p>The essence was always there. It will always be there.</p><p>The oak tree continues to grow.</p><p>&#127795;</p><p>If something in this resonated, a <strong>vocational astrology reading</strong> might be your next step.</p><p>Many of us are feeling the call to bring a new type of contribution to the world, one that feels <strong>truer to who we are</strong>, yet may look very different to what we&#8217;ve done before, or what we&#8217;ve been taught is &#8216;sensible&#8217;, &#8216;allowed&#8217; or &#8216;worthwhile&#8217;.</p><p>Through my vocational astrology readings, I can help <strong>amplify the volume of that call</strong> so that you can hear it clearly and act on it with confidence.</p><p>&#163;77 &#8226; 60 minutes &#8226; recording included &#8226; <strong><a href="https://calendly.com/worthfulwoman/career-magic">book here</a></strong></p><p>Until next time,</p><p>Cristina</p><p><strong><a href="https://linktr.ee/worthfulwoman">All my work/Work with me</a></strong></p><div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://newsletter.worthfulwoman.com/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe&quot;,&quot;language&quot;:&quot;en&quot;}" data-component-name="SubscribeWidgetToDOM"><div class="subscription-widget show-subscribe"><div class="preamble"><p class="cta-caption">Did someone forward you this email? Although science has uncovered vast knowledge about our world, I believe a lot of its potential (even without <a href="https://newsletter.worthfulwoman.com/p/science-spirituality-part1">expanding its current form</a>) remains untapped.</p><p>I trace that back to the fact that throughout history, the <strong>social activity</strong> of science has partially blinded itself, by <strong>excluding</strong> the experiences and perspectives of people who <strong>lacked power</strong>: such as those of people belonging to certain racial and ethnic groups, and those of women.</p><p>In this article, I will focus on the historic exclusion of women from scientific education and activity.</p><p>Though we&#8217;re <strong>much closer</strong> today to equal opportunity and equal treatment in scientific careers across genders, <a href="https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/racism-and-sexism-in-science-havent-disappeared/">the issue of sexism in science is not yet resolved</a>. scientific stance on the clitoris?</p><blockquote><p><em>&#8220;In 1545, when we still believed the sun revolved around the earth, a French physician dissected the clitoris. Titling it &#8220;membre honteux,&#8221; or &#8220;the shameful member&#8221;, he deemed its single use urination. Prior to this ~groundbreaking~ discovery, a 1486 guide to finding witches declared that clitoral tissue on a woman was the indication of a witch. In the 16th century, Vesalius, &#8220;father of modern anatomy&#8221;, claimed the clitoris didn&#8217;t exist in healthy women and was only found among hermaphrodites.&#8221;</em> (<a Yet, what were the real-life consequences of asserting that &#8220;clitoral tissue on a woman [is] the indication of a witch&#8221;? </p><blockquote><p><em>They didn't call it a clitoris. Medical examiners called it a "devil's teat" (&#8230;) The belief that the clitoris fed the devil continued into the sixteenth century. In 1593, Alice Samuel was accused of witchcraft, stripped naked, and examined for the devil's teat. Unfortunately, the witch hunters found her clitoris, and Alice was hanged for witchcraft. The fear and hate they inspire, fester: <strong>poisoning how we think, how we treat one another, what &#8211; and who &#8211; ends up mattering in our eyes.</strong></p><blockquote><p><em>Across their lifetime, 1 in 3 women, around <strong>736 million</strong>, are subjected to physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner or sexual violence from a non-partner. Women are being told that their psychiatric disorders are so incurable that they would be better off euthanised. All the while, the &#8216;end mental health stigma&#8217; brigade fail to understand the history and context of psychiatry, or the systems of oppression they are supporting. Not in its current form.</strong></p><p>Historically, science has been seen &#8211; and promoted &#8211; as an impartial, objective activity. </p><p>That objectivity is <strong>an illusion</strong> &#8211; science is a human activity, and as all human activities, it&#8217;s vulnerable to biases and stereotypes, personal and societal.</p><p>So instead of pretending scientists are immune to biases and stereotypes, we need to address them head on. <a href="https://theconversation.com/ethnic-diversity-on-campus-helps-break-down-stereotypes-142122#:~:text=Diverse%20environments%20encourage%20people%20to,that%20groups%20overlap%20a%20lot.">Something that can help dissolve stereotypes is exposure to diverse environments.</a> Furthermore:</p><blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Science is a collective effort, and it works best when scientific communities are <strong>diverse</strong>. The reason is simple: heterogeneous communities are more likely than homogeneous ones to be able to <strong>identify blind spots and correct them</strong>.&#8221; (<a href="https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/racism-and-sexism-in-science-havent-disappeared/">source</a>)</em></p></blockquote><p><a href="https://spotify.link/soLNbXBlOyb">On the Worthful Woman podcast</a>, I will share more on how failing to identify and correct these blind spots can lead to dogmatic thinking in science, and some of the implications this has had on understanding spiritual experiences through a scientific lens.</p><p>With love,</p><p>Cristina</p><p><strong>Find more of my work at: <a href="http://www.worthfulwoman.com">www.worthfulwoman.com</a></strong></p><div><hr></div><p><strong>Normal Is for Surviving, Abnormal Is for Thriving, and You Get To Have Both &#8211; </strong><em>A personal share about balancing science and spirituality in my own life.</em></p><p><em>This part of the email was only sent to subscribers.</em></p><div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://newsletter.worthfulwoman.com/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe&quot;,&quot;language&quot;:&quot;en&quot;}" data-component-name="SubscribeWidgetToDOM"><div class="subscription-widget show-subscribe"><div class="preamble"><p class="cta-caption">Thanks for reading Worthful Woman! If you&#8217;re unfamiliar with the scientific method, <a href="https://www.khanacademy.org/science/biology/intro-to-biology/science-of-biology/a/the-science-of-biology">here is a great explanation of it</a>.</p><p>So far, so good: acknowledging that there is always &#8220;more&#8221; to be known, more unknown left to be explored, is compatible with both a spiritual and a scientific attitude to this &#8220;more&#8221; &#8211; which <strong>methods</strong> &#8211; actually lead to an accurate understanding of reality.</p><p>Some people believe that science can explain everything; in other there are truths beyond what the human mind can understand. Hence science has its limits, and this knowledge should be sought via different methods. For instance, take the following definitions of mystics: </p><p></p><blockquote><p>&#8220;A person who seeks by <strong>contemplation and self-surrender</strong> to obtain unity with or absorption into the Deity or the absolute, or who believes in the <strong>spiritual apprehension of truths that are beyond the intellect</strong>.&#8221; (<a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=define+mystic&amp;oq=define+mystic&amp;aqs=chrome.0.69i59j0i512j0i20i263i512j0i512l7.1387j1j1&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8">source</a>) </p></blockquote><blockquote><p>&#8220;A person who claims to attain, or believes in the possibility of attaining, insight into <strong>mysteries transcending ordinary human knowledge</strong>, as by <strong>direct communication</strong> with the divine or <strong>immediate intuition</strong> in a <strong>state of spiritual ecstasy</strong>.&#8221; (<a href="https://www.dictionary.com/browse/mystic">source</a>)</p></blockquote><p></p><p>Reading these definitions, I can&#8217;t help but see a parallel between how scientists use the scientific method, and how mystics use the methods of contemplation and self-surrender, all in an attempt to gain accurate knowledge about reality.</p><p>What if scientists were to use contemplation as a research method? There are scientists who believe that science could be <strong>expanded</strong> via such introspective approaches, and who propose developing systematic methods to investigate reality via introspection. If you&#8217;re curious to learn more, the <a href="https://galileocommission.org/report/">Galileo Commission Report</a> details this proposal and the reasoning behind it. </p><p>Personally, I believe <a href="https://www.khanacademy.org/science/biology/intro-to-biology/science-of-biology/a/the-science-of-biology">the scientific method</a> is a brilliant way to learn about our reality. It enables us to step into the unknown aspects of our world and advance our knowledge in a <strong>systematic</strong> way &#8211; <strong>it is slow, but reliable</strong>.</p><p>While I think there could potentially be some limits to the knowledge we can acquire through science, I believe we still have a <strong>long</strong> way to go before we reach them. </p><p>And while I could see systematic introspection filling up quite a lot of that gap, there&#8217;s something even more fundamental that science has been missing. </p><p>Something that&#8217;s been staring us in the face all along.</p><p><a href="https://newsletter.worthfulwoman.com/p/science-spirituality-part2">Continued in part 2.</a></p><p><strong>Find more of my work at: <a href="http://www.worthfulwoman.com">www.worthfulwoman.com</a></strong></p><div><hr></div><p><strong>Sometimes, the Pragmatic Choice Is Living With the Mystery &#8211; </strong><em>A personal share about balancing science and spirituality in my own life.</em></p><p><em>This part of the email was only sent to subscribers.</em></p><div class="subscription-widget-wrap-editor" data-attrs="{&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https://newsletter.worthfulwoman.com/subscribe?&quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Subscribe&quot;,&quot;language&quot;:&quot;en&quot;}" data-component-name="SubscribeWidgetToDOM"><div class="subscription-widget show-subscribe"><div class="preamble"><p class="cta-caption">Thanks for reading Worthful Woman!
